After an earth shattering and heartbreaking event, I was forced to look at myself more closely then I ever had to before. What I saw I was not pleased with. I was unhappy and unhealthy and looking forward to more misery if I didn’t change.
I admit, it shouldn’t have been such a revelation, now, veganism seems so simple and easy an answer, but it took time for me to see.
I didn’t become vegan to lose weight, I did it to save my life. My blood pressure was unmanageable and I was borderline diabetic. After becoming vegan, I quickly lost a lot of weight. Without trying, simply by eating better. It made all the difference in the world. I am now probably so self confident you’d call me cocky, both emotionally and physically, all through veganism.
I switched to my new lifestyle overnight, there was no gradual move, I just woke up and ransacked my kitchen, tossing everything meat and dairy and after a quick trip to the grocery store, was set. I haven’t looked back.
It means no more fast food, a lot of home cooking, and more effort. But I never feel sick from over eating, I don’t ever have that heavy greasy feeling, and I have more energy. All of a sudden I was more productive a person, and just happier.
Slowly, I began making more conscious purchases, eliminating leather and animal goods. I began to see the global difference in my habits and began to try to purchase locally.
I’m not saying being a vegan will save the world, I’m only saying it saved ME. This is my life, my story.

I completely agree, that veganism is the best choice for all humans. It is actually better for us. It is also the way we humans were meant to eat; in fact, we have flat teeth because we were made to eat only plants. I wish that I could get others to feel the same way, but it is so difficult. Most people tell me that I am not helping to save animals, but I do not know any otherway to live. If I don’t try to make a change, than I am only adding to the damage already being done.
Yay!
Thumbs up for that. I am only a vegetarian but maybe some day I will be able to do the change.
I like animals better than people.
So, that is why haven’t eaten meat in over 17 years.
I don’t think I could ever give up cheese though.
