More Mixology. Again.

28 Aug

I ordered Sunday, it arrived yesterday.  You cannot beat customer service like that!!

This time I got the Afterglow powder from my previous post as well as three new shadows.

From left to right : Soot, 6 Shooter, and Bones

I was looking for a few colors to wear with Alias.

  • Soot is a lovely grey.  It’s a bit more matte then G2′s Turn 2 Grey, but otherwise a close match.
  • 6 Shooter is a light greyish violet.
  • Bones is the be all end all of blending shadows.  It’s my new MAC Vanilla.  I don’t care what you say, Vanilla isn’t matte, it’s got just a bit of a shimmer.  Bones is perfectly matte and blends into my skin perfectly.  It’s going to be PERFECT.

Here they are with Alias swiped under them so you can see how they make the perfect ‘collection’.

Glow or Afterglow?

28 Aug

In my latest order from Mixology I ordered something called Afterglow.   I just want to reiterate I am not a Twilight fan, but the idea of radiant skin is what I was looking for.  So it was the right concept.

Afterglow Mineral Veil gives off the soft glow of candlelight for the “dew” effect, it is a translucent mineral suitable for all shades and skin tones. Get the Cullen pearlesent glow depending on how much you use. You can wear under foundation to smooth fine lines or over foundation to help set your look.

I wanted to compare it to something I had ordered a couple of weeks ago called Glow, from The All Natural Face.

Glow is a shade can suit a mulitude of skin tones. It can be used alone for a “glow”, as a light blusher, or on top of your foundation. It is a great color to give you that extra special “glow”.

Looking at them in the jars, it’s obvious that Glow is really pink compared to the pale Afterglow on the left.  I know that it’s meant to go on sheer and just leave a hint of color, so I didn’t hesitate to apply it.

I started by moisturizing my skin and using a light foundation.  I applied Glow first, to the right side of my face.  It has a bit of a glitter in it.  It’s not an all over shimmer, rather, just flecks.  Not exactly what I wanted, but I liked it.

Then I put the Afterglow on the left side of my face.  All of a sudden the Glow side was obviously all pink, like I was walking up a million flights of stairs.  Not so flattering.

However the Afterglow did what it claimed.  It was dewy, even being a  powder.  It’s not matte, it’s not shimmery either, and there isn’t any sparkle in it either.  It’s a lovely soft focus color.  I started out with what ended up being WAY too much on my brush.  A little goes a long way, I had to buff it quite a bit.  I’ve never seen a Cullen, but I do like the effect Afterglow gives me.  It’s good for every day.

Glow is proabably a better choice as a ‘light blush’ rather then an all over face powder.

Both are lovely.  Both are quality products.  I will use both.  Afterglow will end up my daily finishing powder until I can try some MAC Mineralize SkinFinish, and Glow will make a very subtle blusher.

Alias

26 Aug

I’m mildly disappointed in Alias, from Mixology.  It looked great swatched on the back of  my hand, but I could not get the same depth on my lid.  So instead of playing up the smokey-ness of it, I used a white NYX pencil as a base and played up the purple that I got to pop over top. I used my purple Rimmel Kajal Kohl pencil to line my lover water line and flick a little cat eye.  The liner was the same basic tone of the color, just a brighter shade, so it showed up very subtly, but it’s lovely.

I used my tinted moisturizer as my foundation, wanting something light, but for my highlight I used the Smashbox Artificial Light.  It was creates the perfect pearly shummer.

On my lips I used a NYX lipstick, I think it was Paris, sort of a light purply pink.

I’m also really going to recomend the ELF Eyebrow Kit.  The gel on the left side of the kit makes for a well tamed and natural brow, perfect for easy daytime looks.

With Liberty and Justice…

21 Aug

My look today was a tad more complicated then I thought it was going to be for looking so simple.

On my face I used the Smashbox Tinted Moisturizer with the ELF Shade stick as a highlight.  I didn’t bother with blush, I usually don’t these days.  I did conceal a few weird spots I’ve got from the healing blood vessels around my nose.

On my eyes I primed them first, then added a little bit of Lemon shadow stick from NYX to the lid ONLY.

Using my Sigma 252 I added the Liberty from Mixology to the lid.  Using a 219 I used Turn to Grey by G2 Pure Pigments to smoke the corner just a tad and smudge it a little into the crease about 3/4 of the way across.

I’ve been having so much fun with all the looks I can make putting shadow on the LID only.

The green and the grey look amazing together.

Then I used the Jemma Kidd i-conic eyes in Rock Chic to line the upper and the lower waterline before adding mascara.

I did my brows with the ELF Brow Kit in light with a G2 flat angled brush.  I highlighted with an Anastasia brow highlighter.

I sealed my face with a light dusting of the Ben Nye Neutral Set.

On my lips I used the Jemma Kidd in Bell du Jour again.

On my nails I’m wearing Guppy nail polish from eBay in #50, a nice snakey green.

Alias

20 Aug

Alias was one of my all time favorite shows.  So when I ran across an eye shadow from Mixology called ‘Alias’ it was all the excuse I needed to place another little order.

They arrived today.  She ships SO fast, but she is just in Arizona…

Anyway, here are my three newest swatches!

From left to right : Conundrum, Alias, and Liberty

Conundrum is like a copper with a green duochromy shimmer.  Alias is a beautiful violet.  Liberty was a last second choice.  It’s green, and I don’t normally like green, but it’s almost got a goldy, maybe khaki duchrome to it.  I’m going to wear it tomorrow (I have sort of a major even thing going on) and see how it works.  I have a really unique color brown eye, so I’m thinking with grey liner, it’ll really make the color pop.

More Mixology

29 Jul

I was so impressed with my Mixology eyeshadows I got the other week, I ordered two more.

From left to right : Era (again), Shiner, and Prospector.

I’m really into pink and gold together.  These were both very soft delicate colors and they look so pretty together!!  Her products come in generous sized jars and she ships super fast.
