Victoria’s Revenge

22 May

Today I am super excited to bring you a sneak peek of Aromaleigh’s NEW eye shadow collection, Victoria’s Revenge!  Not too long ago she posted some inspiration pictures for the collection.  I was really excited about it then, but then on Thursday she posted a little snippet of the colors along with a peek at the names, and I was already hooked!

From left to right, top to bottom: Magik & Metal, Ruthless Indulgence, Bleeding Poppy, Brazen & Bitter, Mayhem’s Trilogy, Cyanide Sorrow, Apocalypse Pansy, Scratched Scruples, and Poison Utopia

From top to bottom, left to right : Phantasm, Perpetual Motion, Oleander Vapor, Private Lunacy, Freakshow, Mourning’s Whimsy, Infernal Chaos, Gaslight Tears, Nightshade

From top to bottom, left to right : Tarnished Strychnine, Frigid Gloom, Obscura, Skeleton Key, Splintered, Mania’s Locus, and Airy Ethos

Kristen’s grasp of color theory is amazing, her colors are so crisp and gorgeous, and this collection is a STUNNER, IMO.  There is no way to pick a favorite, but I’m leaning towards Mania’s Locus, Oleander Vapor, Skeleton Key, and Brazen & Bitter.  Oh, and Gaslight Tears, which I am wearing right now.  Infernal Chaos is a wonderful neutral shade that would make a great highlighter.

While there are no ‘official’ color descriptions or release dates for this collection yet, I know I’ll be getting the entire set in full sizes.  It’s so multifaceted and the colors are deep and dimensional.  Some have the most amazing contrast sparkles and some are just so demure, totally sweet and soft.  The collection has a variety of finishes and textures, so trying to get them to all photograph to their fullest was tricky.

I hope you enjoy this sneak peek!

Stockpiling

14 Mar

I keep getting leaflets in my mailbox from the county because of all of the recent earthquakes in the area.  We had a 4.2 yesterday morning.

Instead of getting a two weeks supply of bottled water, I stocked up on Aromaleigh lip products, since they are being discontinued.

I orderd :

Balms in -

Licorice Twist

Sweet Fennel essential oil is blended with Vanilla Bourbon Absolute for this yummy balm… love black licorice, black jellybeans?

Teaberry

Love teaberry gum? I do! If you’ve ever had teaberry gum, you can’t forget it… it’s spicy, fruity, sweet… all in one!

Jonesing for Java

This balm will amaze you. Coffee absolute is like a fresh hot cup of java! Gotta have it!

French Cocoa Bliss

Delectable French cocoa absolute makes this lipbalm a must for the chocolate lover.

Color Infusion Botanical Lipsticks in -

Vivid

A truly neutral red-red. Classic. Wear a little or wear a lot.

Fling

A medium-deep wear-all shade with russet/brownish and wine tones. Subtle shimmer.

Rocks! Sonic Lips in -

Wicked fuschia!

Blank Generation

A warm purple with rich wine tones.

From left to right, top to bottom : Vivid, Fling, Blank Generation, Head Over Heads, Meloncholia, and Pinafore

ETA:

Do not freeze- this will cause the butters to crystallize and destroy texture. Refrigeration can help extend. The Balms I have never had one go “off” to me- it’s the PIGMENTS in the color products that cause the oxidization…

Aromaleigh Angel’s Retiring!!

24 Jan

Yesterday Kristen announced the end of the Aromaleigh Angel’s line of eye shadows!

From left to right : Phaedra, Rhinestone Housewife, Absinthe Rock, Anastasia, Loretha, and Tanya Angel

The Angels’ shadows will be available now through February 6th, so order now!!

In order to simplify things and return to their roots, Aromaleigh is also making several changes across the site.  They’re discontinuing a lot of the private label cosmetics and face products.  They’re also extending their 25% off sales to two weeks, from the recent 10 days and raising their minimum order from 5$ to 10$.

I placed an order on the 21st and it was #103403 and then a second on the 22nd and it was #103488.  So in about a day Aromaleigh received 85 orders.  It makes complete sense to me to streamline and I’m looking forward to seeing the positive and new things that will come about with less stress and craziness!

Just Like Heaven

27 Dec

Not too long ago I discovered that I absolutely love using Aromaleigh’s Aromatherapy Lip Balm under my eyes.  It’s smooth and emollient and really moisturizes and protects the delicate skin under my eyes.  After years of wearing contacts I feel like I probably could have taken better care of my eye area, the in and out of the contacts as a teen was a lot of tugging and pulling that I’m sure did a lot of damage I’m going to start seeing as I get older.

I went through my first tube and needed to order myself a new one.  Kristen had a few new scents out, so I picked Gingersnap.  I was telling my cousin about how well they worked and she was concerned the flavoring was going to burn my eyes, but they are made with essential oils, not harsh artificial flavoring.

Of course, I can’t just order ONE thing from Aromaleigh, so I ended up with a pleasant little mini-haul that I left under my Christmas tree to unwrap.

I ordered:

Aromatherapy Lip Balm in Gingersnap-

While I’m sure this is great on your lips, I love it under my eye.  I put a little on under my moisturizer in the morning and then smooth it on again at night after I wash my face.  I’ve noticed my skin is smoother and softer and the small lines that I thought I saw starting to appear aren’t as noticeable.

I’m not sure it’s something for everyone, I’m sure people with more sensitive skin might find it aggravating, and I’ll admit next time I probably will get it unscented.

Nourishing Color Creme Limited Edition in Candy Cane

Get this before it’s gone.  Go on.  I linked it above for you, I’ll wait.  I love this, from the peppermint scent to the subtle nude color.  When I do a classic eye I usually try to just stick with a nude lip.  Sometimes I just don’t want any lip color at all and stick with a balm.  This is the best of both.  A nourishing balm and an amazing nude shimmer.  It’s just subtle but stunning.

Rocks Sonic Lips Nourishing Lip Tint in Fiction Romance

These lip tints are another great alternative to actual lipstick.  They leave a sheer wash of color at the same time soften your lips.  It’s so dry here in San Diego most of the year, I love being able to keep my lips soft and not have to have them buried under a layer of lipstick.

Pure Cover Coverup in #2

I wanted to try this mineral cover up for a while.  Normally I don’t use a cover up, I don’t like the ones I’ve tried.  I don’t like layers of things I can feel on my face.  After my primer and foundation I only want to put a little powder on and be out.  I don’t have all that uneven of a skin tone or blemishes, but I do have some problem spots around my nose (broken blood vessels) from constant sinus problems.  I find a light dusting of this before my setting powder is just enough coverage without too much weight or thickness.

En Point Eye Shadows in Clara and Tutu

I can’t get enough of these shadows.  I love the plush finish.  I can’t think of any other company, certianly no major name brand, that has this unique finish.

Clara – Festive warm purple with a twist… an unexpected smokey base and a sweet blue and pink traveling iridescent highlight.

Tutu – Soft pink violet plush matte base with an effervescent golden copper highlight.

Solstice 2009 Eye Shadow in Nasturtium

I collect red eye shadows.  I know, it’s sort of an odd color and its hard to wear, but I always try to pick up new ones when they pique my interest.

Nasturtium – Dramatic neutral red, sparkling with highlights of pink sparks

Rocks Sonic Eyes in Just Like Heaven

I don’t think I can really say much about the Rocks collection that hasn’t already been said.  It’s amazing.  I finally ordered this one because it’s my favorite song, Just Like Heaven.

Just Like Heaven – clear, shimmering cool green with bright sparks.

From top to bottom, left to right: Nasturtium, Clara, Just Like Heaven, and Tutu

Angel Swatches

17 Dec

I finally convinced my Mom to let me open and swatch (and have a little bit of) her Angel Eye Shadow, Ruth Ann.

From left to right : Georgiana and Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann is a matte, almost plush color with a hint of shimmery duochrome.  It rubs down to a light iridescent.

Aromaleigh’s New Hi-Fi Retro Mattes

23 Nov

My Aromaleigh Hi-Fi Retro Mattes samples arrived today.  I had a dozen other things on my to-do list that seriously got shoved aside the moment I saw this envelope.

Mattes are one of those things I’m always searching for.  Mineral mattes are notoriously difficult to formulate, they either get chalky or you can’t seem to blend them.  Some of the last mattes I ran across actually got streaky as I applied them, I assume because they were not quite blended as well as they could be.

The formula on AL’s regular line of mattes, Pure Eyes Mattes, is one of my favorites.  It’s buttery smooth and blends easily.  The only thing that ever kept me from stocking up was the lack of BRIGHT and crazy shades.

When Kristen first posted previews of her new Mattes I was immediately in love with the retro themed bright colors.  So many of these give me instant flashbacks of when I was a kid at my Grandma’s house.  She was generous enough to send me a sample set to review.

From left to right : Supermurgatroid, Kookie, Heels on Fire, Daddy-o, Fake Out, Cranked, Smokin’

From left to right : Ankle Biter, Cool It, Cat’s Pajamas, Train Wreck, Got Dibs, In Orbit, In The Mix

From left to right : Radioactive, Real Gone, What’s Shakin, Big Tickle, Spaz, Flip Your Lid

Formula / Colors

The colors swatch just as brightly as they appear in the baggies, something I honestly did not expect.  With a good base (I’m using TFSI) they are sharp and vibrant.  Some of the shades, while matte, have a bit of a twinkle to them, such as Cranked and In Orbit.  It’s very subtle but lends just a bit of depth.  The shades come in a wide spectrum of colors, from lights to darks.

They blend well, either into each other to shade or out into your lid for a faded look with no sharp edges.  They go on smooth, not at all sticky.  They’re not at all chalky or ‘dusty’ and it only takes a little to get opaque coverage, versus having to layer it on to get the colors to pop.

The actual shadow itself is well blended.  In a few of the mattes I’ve gotten from other companies in the past they had little bits of what I can only assume was the base sort of floating inside that would leave a white streak when applied.  I know AL uses quality machinery to blend their colors, so I have no fear of that here.  The minerals are fine smooth.

The colors themselves are really unique.  My personal favorites are Spaz, which reminds me of the daisies on the plates my Mom used when I was growing up.  Kookie, because it’s an amazing bright pink.  Big Tickle, it’s AQUA, so very retro.

Conclusion

Would I purchase more AL’s Hi-Fi Retro Mattes even though I have a full set of samples?  Oh heck, yes.

  • The colors are unique and bright, but there are enough muted shades that there is something for every one.
  • The formula really surprised me, no splotching.

You can expect to hear more about these shades in the up coming days as I wear them and try them out.  My initial thoughts, though, are that they are amazing and I can see so many different people liking these, not just for the formula, but for the colors as well.
